‘Perfection is not just about control. It’s also about letting go!'

Black Swan, a 2010 film by successful director Darren Aronofsky, who competently uses the language of psychological thriller cinema in his cinematography spanning different genres; with its powerful performances by its ambitious cast, its immersive cinematography, and its breathtaking pace, it masterfully showcases all the elements of the multi-layered complex structure of the art of cinema.

Following the story of the ballerina Nina (Natalie Portman), who works under the roof of the New York City Ballet, Black Swan conveys the spiral of extinction she was dragged into due to her professional ambition that is brought up by her mother Erica who is also a retired prima ballerina (Barbara Hershey) and her artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel). Nina is gravitated to the path of success, when Leroy decides to bring in a new ballerina instead of Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the sophisticated and compelling performance of the Swan Queen, the lead role in the ballet Swan Lake. The film brings   the contradictory, complex and tension-filled chemistry of her relationship with Lily (Mila Kunis), who recently joined the cast and succeeded in impressing Leroy, also the an impressive choreography of minds and emotions as well as bodies to the screen.

Black Swan, which brought Natalie Portman the Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe awards in the best actress category; offers a high-caliber cinema experience with its narrative that is lost in the dead ends of a soul boiling in the cauldron of strong emotions such as ambition, disappointment, hope and passion, dragging the audience to the tip of their armchair and seeing it off with a magnificent finale.
