An encounter between two of the most remarkable women artists of the twentieth century, One Day Pina Asked... is Chantal Akerman's look at the work of choreographer Pina Bausch and her Wuppertal, Germany-based dance company. "This film is more than a documentary on Pina Bausch," a narrator announces at the outset, "it is a journey through her world, through her unwavering quest for love." Bausch, who died in 2009, was one of the most significant figures of modern dance, and the pioneer of a unique style drawn from the German theatrical dance tradition known as tanztheater. Her striking dances and elaborate stagings explored personal memory and the relationships between men and women, among other things, through a mixture of movement, monologue and narrative elements that drew upon explosive, often painful emotions.

Two projects show how a young generation of dancers is rediscovering Pina’s choreography: the Semperoper Ballet Company in Dresden is rehearsing Pina’s dance opera Iphigenia in Tauris, and dancers from all over Africa are rehearsing Pina’s ballet The Rite of Spring at the Sand School in Senegal. A fascinating metamorphosis: while the dancers from street dance, classical ballet, traditional and modern African dance transform Pina’s work, Pina’s choreography transforms the dancers.
All ticket income of this program will be donated to ongoing relief efforts in the earthquake area.

CINEMA - The screening will take place on an indoor stage, our certified ventilation systems operate with 100% fresh air and do not include particles.
- Disabled audiences will be able to enter Kundura Sinema from the main entrance.
- Seats are not numbered.
SESSION - All films will be screened in their original language with Turkish subtitles.
- In the event that there is a technical issue with the electronic subtitling system, our technicians will first work to resolve the issue, and if that is not possible, the screening will continue without subtitles.
- We kindly ask our audience to pay attention to come to the sessions on time.
- Pursuant to Article 7 of Law No. 7163, “Motion pictures without any content rating and classification may only be shown during festivals, special film screenings and similar cultural and art activities by displaying the rating symbol of 18+ years old.”
