Turned into a screenplay by the famous director Steven Spielberg in 1975, from the best seller novel of the American author Peter Benchley published with the same name in 1974, Jaws centers around a shark causing trouble to a small coastal town and the team trying to catch the shark. The movie which discovers the term “Blockbuster” used for entertainment movies playing to a full house is regarded as a milestone for the modern Hollywood cinema as well and considered amongst the most significant, even the most long-running classics of the American movie history.

Although it caused shark phobia for a couple of generations and is regarded as the first movie to spread the fear of sharks in the history of cinema, Jaws is simply more than an ordinary shark movie; it indeed draws attention to a more complex factor and depicts a sort of moral story for the audience. The main role is Roy Scheider, with his police officer performance tracking the deaths caused by the giant white shark Jaws, along with the marine biologist helping the officer, portrayed by Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw, the audience watches as the professional shark hunter.

The mayor of Amity Island does not want others to learn the deaths caused by Jaws and accordingly the blocking access to the beach where the casualties are, as he believes it would be an obstacle for tourism. However, upon the death of a young kid, the residents of town will not remain silent against this hushed up case anymore; now everyone is ready to do its part for finding the murderer shark.

Keeping the tension very high from the very beginning till the end, Jaws draws attention not only by its storyline, but also by its soundtrack by John Williams. Such that, the composition which made Williams win a reward in Oscars, Golden Globe and BAFTA has turned into a classic in time, representing the approaching of threat in thriller movies.

The movie to be screened within the scope of Sunday Cinema Club held on the last Sunday of every month by Kundura Cinema in memory of Sunday night cinema tradition of the 80s and 90s is looking forward to show the audience once again the giant trouble of the seas, Jaws.
