TASIDIKLARIMIZ (The Things We Carry)

Inspired by the practices of nomady and vagabondism, Tasidiklarimiz is the new project by Ciplak Ayaklar Kumpanyasi, one of the leading contemporary dance companies in Turkey and offers a startling viewing experience in pursuit of answers to questions like “Are the things we carry actually the things we need? Are they here to keep us alive or do they ensure that the life we accepted without questioning is sustained?”

The project, whose artistic direction is by one of the leading Portuguese choreographers Franscisco Camacho and featuring the company dancers Leyla Postalcioglu and Mihran Tomasyan, as well as musician Berke Can Ozcan, is accompanied by the independent musician’s music, made with various everyday objects such as earthen flowerpots, crown corks and keys. The thrilling show leaves the audience in awe and facing their own burdens while also suggesting the possiblity and consequent relief of letting them go.

Produced in collaboration with one of Portugual’s most significant art collectives EIRA, Tasidiklarimiz draws it inspiration not only from the roots of two dance companies from two harbor cities (one in Lisbon, the other in Istanbul) that represent the Western and Easterns edges of Europe but also from their diverse traditions and highly contrasting socio-cultural realities.

Artistic Direction: Francisco Camacho | Created and Performed by: Leyla Postalcıoğlu, Mihran Tomasyan, Berke Can Özcan | Lighting Design: Cem Yılmazer | Costume Design: Selen Hayal | Lighting Execution: Yasin Gültepe | Sound Execution: Berkant ‘Doktor’ Kılıçkap | Poster: Alican Tezer | Photography: Mustafa Erdoğan, KAM Stüdyo | Assistants: Carlote Lloret, Selim Cizdan | Teaser: Muhtar Pattabanoğlu | Duration: 75 min

ÇIPLAK AYAKLAR KUMPANYASI, founded in Beyoglu in 2003, was formed by a group of dancers in search of İlhan Berk’s ‘dream country’ referred in his poem ‘Ciplak Ayak’. Their first production ‘Why, İnçu, Çima, Neden…’ (2003) was followed by independent productions such as ‘Mehmet Barış’ı Seviyor’ (2006), ‘Engin-ar’ (2009), ‘Şehirde’ (2009),‘Kontrol’ (2010), ‘Sen Balık Değilsin Ki’ (2010), ‘Ters Okyanus’ (2011), ‘Gomidas’la Yolculuk’ (2012), ‘Hayat Ağacı’ (2013), ‘Kız Doğdu’ (2014), ‘TÜH!’ (2014), ‘SAR’ (2015), ‘HerAnHerŞeyOlabilir’ (2016), ’Hiçbir Şey Yerinde Değil’ (2018), ‘Gölge Veri’ (2020). Valuing the continuity of production through sharing and always pushing to form its unique language, the group expanded over time through forms of body, movement, performance and workshops and earned itself its audience while

opening up opportunities for amateur and professional dancers to be part of the the field. Today, the company continues to dance its way towards the dream utopia.
